Algonquin Winter Tracking 2011

Sunday (Day 9)

My last day. I basically took it easy again today, gradually making my way westward through the park, preparatory to heading home.
A couple of inches of snow fell the pervious night, making the evergreen trees very pretty.
At the Opeongo Road I watched a Red Squirrel make these tracks as it crossed a closed road. This little guy's tracks are 47" (4 feet) apart! He moved with a springy "boing boing" motion (that's the best way to describe it!), not the usual leaps that we are used to seeing squirrels make. It was just as if he had springs on the bottom of his feet!
The highlight of the day was being able to photograph a couple of Pine Martens as they mooched off a bird feeder.
A trip along the Rock Lake road provided the opportunity to photograph some cliffs, as well as examine various tracks, including those of an otter (not shown).
And finally, at Arowhon Road, this interesting snow pattern on a rock under a tree.
And thaaaat's all, folks! I had a great week in the outdoors, once again!!
