Algonquin Winter Tracking 2011

Sunday (Day 2)

Sunday morning I went to the Spruce Bog Boardwalk to see if I could get a chance to see the Boreal Chickadees that were said to be hanging out there. They are usually farther north than this.

Anyways... I lucked out. Here is a photo of one. They look like "normal" Black-Capped Chickadees, except they are brown on top, and rusty-brown along the sides.

There were a number of other birds there, among them this Downy Woodpecker.
Next stop was the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre. Out back there are bird feeders that also attract other wildlife, such as this Red Squirrel.
Then back to the Opeongo Road, to explore this large bog. Didn't find a lot of tracks here this time, but it was nice walking around and exploring.
A late afternoon walk along the Big Pines trail brought me to some of the oldest and largest White Pine trees in Algonquin Park. An obliging visitor took this photo of me beside one.

There were moose tracks nearby.
