Algonquin Winter Tracking 2012

Tuesday (Day 4)

A Pine Grosbeak. Guess where this is. Yup - Opeongo Road!
A red squirrel taking advantage of spilled bird feed.
A quick visit to the Spruce Bog yielded this Brown Creeper. This is a tiny bird that spend its time gleaning food in the form of tiny insects found in the cracks of tree bark.
Then I went for a hike on the Two Rivers trail.

I came across this scene exhibiting multiple signs of Snowshoe Hare. We can see where it has eaten the bark of the fallen branches, and left behind an orange pee stain along with some scat pellets.

The highlight of this trail is the viewpoint overlooking the Madawaska River valley.

Along here I encountered a large flock of energetic Pine Siskins.
Then to finish off the day, a trip to Peck Lake.

This is a mink hole and tracks along the edge of the lake.

View of Peck Lake.
