Algonquin Winter Tracking Expedition 2007

Wednesday (Day 4)

Again today, we split into two groups. Rather than a diary of what each group saw, this page simply presents some of the highlights of each group's explorations.

One group found some very nice clear Fisher tracks.

Here the fisher has urinated over top of a lone Wolf's tracks.

This is a scent post of wolves. Wolves commonly mark their territory with urine.

Perhaps 6-8 wolves used this same trail, stepping in each other's footprints. Following these tracks, the group found they were the same pack of wolves that were using the beds we found yesterday!

Other discoveries of the day included:

  • a flying squirrel nest
  • beaver lodge and dam
  • marten tracks in the forest
  • black-backed woodpecker
  • ermine tracks
  • snowshoe hare tracks
