Mammal Tracks and Sign

Muskrat

TRACKS

A muskrat made a journey across this small frozen pond, on a thin layer of freshly snow, leaving behind a very nice clear set of tracks.

Before it headed out across the pond, it did a little circle around the near shore.

Can you tell from this photo where it came out the first time, which direction it was moving when it did its little circle, and which trail is the one it made when it headed out across the pond?

Note the obvious tail drag
