Algonquin Winter Tracking Expedition 2007

Thursday (Day 5)

Today we hiked north to the Chit Lake cabin and back. An easy day, but still full of discoveries and nature lessons of the Algonquin forest!

These are old marks where a Red Squirrel has chewed into the bark of this Red Maple in order to drink the sap.

Although the week is all about tracks, trails, and sign, we also study all aspects of Nature.

Here are some Common Polypody ferns on a rock by the trail.

Enjoying a lunch break and fire at the Chit Lake cabin.

Waiting for the thaw.

Bear bites on a White Pine.

Mouse tracks across the trail. Note the two tunnels.
