A Matter of Choice

A long time ago, Tom Brown Jr. was working with a group of people out in Washington state.  The weather, as is common for the west coast, was cold and rainy.  Nonetheless, Tom took everyone on a long hike.  At the outset of the hike, he told them they were going to have to walk through some water on the way back.  Almost instantly people started grumbling...  it was going to be cold, and wet.... and this increased in intensity throughout the hike.  When they reached that point, Tom stepped right in and kept going.  With no other choice, one by one the people followed, reluctantly.  Several of them told Tom after that they felt cold when they stepped into the water..... until they realized it was a hot spring.
