Habitat: A mountain range in southern Arizona, near the Mexican border (Photo 23A). (Yes, that’s smoke from a fire – a controlled brush-reduction fire run by the Forest Service.)

The tracks were found in Oak / Sycamore forest high in the mountains, where it had recently snowed (Photo 23B).

Time of Year: January.

Hmm, as seen in Photo 23C, there are some pristine tracks in the shallow snow.

Photo 23D is a montage showing the trail. The stride ranges from 12 to 16 inches, and the trail width ranges from 4¾ to 6½ inches. The circular impression around the footprint is approx. 4½ inches diameter.

Photos 23E / 23F / 23G / 23H are zoomed in on individual footprints. The length & width of the print are identical for each individual print, with a range from 2¾ to 3 inches.
