Habitat: The shallow inlet area of a mountain lake in Glacier National Park, Montana (see Photos J1 & J2).

Photo J3

Photo J3 shows the animal’s trail coming out of the lake and onto wet sand amidst the braided streams of the inlet to the lake. The animal’s stride is 32" and trail width is 10½".

Photo J4 is a closeup of a typical footprint, which measures 4¾" wide by 6" long. 

 

  

Photo J5

Photo J5 is a closeup of a footprint in a spot where the sand was really wet and the animal sank in deep enough to leave dewclaw tracks; in this case the overall length of the track is 8¾".
